The ingredients needed to make Matar Paneer:
  1. Get 400 grams paneer cubed
  2. Get 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  3. Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
  4. Get 3 green cardamoms
  5. Make ready 2 cloves
  6. Prepare 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  7. Prepare 1 -inch piece of ginger, chopped
  8. Take 1 medium red onion, finely chopped ~ 1 1/2 cups
  9. Make ready 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  10. Prepare 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  11. Prepare 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  12. Take 1 tbsp coriander powder
  13. Get 1 tsp salt, divided
  14. Take 1/4 cup water to cook spices
  15. Get 3 Roma tomatoes pureed ~ 2 1/2 cups
  16. Take 1 1/2 cups water
  17. Get 1 cup frozen peas rinsed under warm water
  18. Take 1/2 tbsp kasoori methi
  19. Take 1/2 tsp garam masala
  20. Make ready 1/4 cup fresh cilantro

Punjabi Style Matar Paneer Recipe: Cubed and fried paneer chunks, sauteed with peas, green chillies along with a host of spices, tomatoes and ginger garlic paste. Matar paneer is a classic vegetarian curry of Indian cheese and peas cooked in a tomato-based sauce. Frying the cheese until golden makes a big difference to the flavour and texture of the curry so don't. Matar paneer is a delicious curry made of paneer cubes and fresh peas cooked in a rich, spicy and tangy gravy.

Instructions to make Matar Paneer:
  1. Chop the ginger, garlic and red onions, Puree the tomatoes using a blender.
  2. Heat a pot on medium heat, once hot, add oil followed by cumin seeds, green cardamom, and cloves. Saute for about 30 seconds. Add the ginger and garlic and saute for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add the red onions and 1/2 tsp of salt. Stir. Allow the onions to cook for about 7 minutes. Stir occasionally. The onions should be slightly brown.
  4. Add the spices - red chili powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder. Saute for a couple of seconds. Immediately add water and cook down the spices. The water prevents the spices from burning.
  5. Add tomato puree and another 1/2 tsp of salt. Stir. Cover and cook for 20 minutes on medium heat.
  6. 20 minutes later - the tomatoes should look well cooked. Add 1 1/2 cups of water. Stir. Cook for a couple of minutes until heated. Add frozen peas that have been rinsed under warm water. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Now add dry kasoori methi leaves. Stir. Add paneer and cook for about 30 seconds to 1-minute max. Do not overcook the paneer. Turn off the stove. - Add garam masala.
  8. Finish with 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro. Matar Paneer is ready! Check for salt and serve.
