Add the chopped onions, drizzle idli podi. Drizzle oil and cook in low medium flame. Once the bottom starts browning at the edges(corners) flip over to other side. Uttapam gets cooked with onions and other vegetables getting.

Instructions to make Onion uttapam:
  1. Combine the dosa batter with little water and salt in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Heat a pan/tava or griddle over medium heat. Add a teaspoon of oil in the centre and spread a large spoonful of the batter onto the hot griddle. Do not spread out very thin, spread to about 1/3rd to 1/2 an inch thickness.
  3. Sprinkle some chopped onions, green chillies, coriander, curry leaves and a teaspoon of cumin seeds over the batter (optional).
  4. Drizzle a little oil around the uttapam.
  5. Cook over medium heat till the sides begin to turn brown.Flip over, simmer, cook for a minute or till it becomes golden brown.
  6. Serve hot with your favorite chutney and sambhar.
