  1. Prepare 200 grams moong daal(split green gram)
  2. Get 350 grams rice(preferably shortgrain aromat)
  3. Get 1 large peeled and diced potato
  4. Prepare 4-5 cauliflower florets
  5. Take 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  6. Make ready 2 slit green chillies
  7. Prepare 1 dried red chillies
  8. Make ready 1 Bay leaf
  9. Get 2 green cardamoms
  10. Get 2 cloves
  11. Take 1 inch cinnamon stick
  12. Get 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  13. Take 3 cups hot water
  14. Get 2 tablespoon mustard oil
  15. Prepare to taste Salt and sugar
  16. Take 1 teaspoon each:turmeric,red chilli, garam masala powders
  17. Take 2 tablespoon grated coconut
  18. Take 1 dollop of ghee
  19. Prepare Handful green peas

It is served as bhog to ma durga I have adapted this Bengali khichuri recipe from two of the Bengali cookbooks which I have. Bhoger khichuri is completely niramish Bengali Moong dal khichdi (pure vegetarian) for Bhog. It is also known as bhaja mug daler khichuri. This pure veg Bhog er khichuri has strictly no onion no.

Instructions to make Bengali Bhoger Khichuri:
  1. Add and sauté moong daal in a wok over Low heat till golden brown. Keep aside
  2. Heat oil and temper with sauté the cauliflower and potato till slight brown. Keep aside
  3. Now temper with both chillies and all the whole spices
  4. As the cumin seeds splutter, add coconut and ginger paste. Sauté on low heat
  5. Add all the dry spices (except garam masala powder) and continue to sauté till the mix is dry and the coconut browns
  6. Next add the sautéed moong daal, rice and hot water
  7. Mix well and turn the heat high now
  8. Add the sautéed cauliflower and potato, green peas and salt to taste
  9. Cook covered by reducing heat once the water boils
  10. Once done (ie rice and daal cooked to perfection) finish with garam masala powder,ghee and sugar
  11. Mix and take off heat after a while
  12. Serve while warm preferably with fries, pujor laabda (mixed vegetable curry) and sweet Bengali tomato chutney
