  8. Take 1/2 tsp haldi

  1. Pressure cook the dal with onion and haldi till 1 whistle. Then simmer it for 2 more whistles.

  3. Add brinjals to the tamarind juice and cook on medium heat. Add salt, jaggery, hing / asafoetida. Grind the tomatoes with the sambar powder.
  4. After cooking the vegetable for 10 minutes, add the tomatoes paste and boil for another 5 minutes.
  5. Mash the Dal with a ladle. Add it to the tamarind vegetable mixture. Boil for another 2 minutes. Check and adjust the salt and chilli powder. Adjust the consistency by adding water as needed.
  6. Add a tadka of mustard seeds, jeera, dry red chilli and methi seeds. I use coconut oil for tadka here. You can use your preferred oil. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and curry leaves. Awesome sambhar is ready.
