The ingredients needed to make Sambar Rice:
  1. Take 1 cup Cooked rice
  2. Take 1/2 cup Cooked toor dal
  3. Take Masala paste (described below)
  4. Take as needed Boiled vegetables - Carrot,beans & drumstick
  5. Take 1 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  6. Prepare 1/2 Onion
  7. Prepare 1/2 Tomato
  8. Take 3-4 tsp Oil
  9. Make ready 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  10. Make ready to taste Salt
  11. Get Seasoning
  12. Take 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  13. Take 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  14. Make ready 1/4 tsp Urad dal
  15. Prepare leaves Curry

  17. Make ready 1 pinch hing/asafoetida

It is rich in nutrients as it contains lots of vegetables and lentils. Sambar rice is also known as Sambar sadam in state of Tamilnadu. After Vegetable Pulav, Sambar Rice is one of my favorite dishes I have tasted during South Indian. Sambar rice, also known as sambar sadam is lentil and rice one pot spicy and flavourful South Indian dish.

Steps to make Sambar Rice:
  1. Firstly, heat a pan with some oil.Add 1 tsp coriander seeds, ½ tsp urad dal, ½ tsp chana dal, ¼ tsp methi and dried kashmiri red chillies. - Now add in few curry leaves and 2 tbsp coconut pieces - Fry for a minute.let it cool and transfer to the blender, - add in required water, and blend to smooth paste. keep aside.
  2. Firstly, in a large kadai heat 2 tbsp ghee & 1tsp oil. - Now add mustard seeds, jeera, pinch of hing,curry leaves and dried red chillies & allow to splutter. - Now add ½ onion petals and saute for a minute & add ½ tomato chopped and saute till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy. - now add cooked vegetables of your choice like carrot, beans and drumstick alongwith the water(boiled veggies),½ tsp turmeric and salt to taste.
  3. Cover and boil the vegetables for 5 minutes or till they are cooked well. - Now add ¼ cup tamarind pulp and ½ tsp jaggery & - again boil for 5 minutes or till the raw flavour from tamarind goes away. - Now add in prepared masala paste, ½ cup cooked toor dal and 2 cups cooked rice. - mix all the ingredients well and adjust consistency by adding water if required. - simmer for 5 minutes or till the sambar rice thickens slightly.

You can easily prepare in a pressure cooker or an instant pot. Cook rice with needed water and keep it aside.
