Radish Sambar (Mullangi Sambar) is one of the most common sambar variety in Southern India, especially in TamilNadu.

The ingredients needed to make Raddish Sambar:
  1. Get 300 g Raddish
  2. Get To pressure cook
  3. Get 2 cups toor dal
  4. Get 10 garlic cloves
  5. Make ready 2 tomatoes
  6. Take 2tsp oil
  7. Take 1tsp cumin seeds
  8. Make ready 1/2tsp turmeric powder
  9. Get To soak
  10. Get 1 tbsp Tamarind
  11. Get 1/2 cup water
  12. Get Tempering
  13. Make ready 1tsp Vadavam/ mustard seeds
  14. Make ready 1tsp asofetida
  15. Take 2 spring curry leaves
  16. Get 10 shallots/1 onion (chopped)
  17. Get 1 tomato (chopped)
  18. Take 1tsp red chilli powder
  19. Prepare 2tsp sambar powder
  20. Get 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
  21. Take To taste salt
  22. Get 3 tbsp oil

It is also the easy radish sambar recipe which is made without coconut. This radish sambar uses sambar powder and I am using the Everest sambar masala here. I usually don't prefer ready-made masala but I have this one and trust me, the quality of the masala is too good. South Indian style Radish or Mullangi Sambar prepared using grated Coconut, Sambar Powder and Tamarind Paste.

Instructions to make Raddish Sambar:
  1. First step is to soak tamarind in ½ cup water. Set aside.
  2. Take all ingredients to pressure cook, add 3 cups water, turmeric powder,oil and cook for 4-5 whistles. Mash and set aside.
  3. Take raddish in a kadai add little salt and roast till it releases water and turns golden. Add ½ cup water.Pressure cook for just 1 whistle. Drain the water and set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add vadavam, curry leaves and onion. Saute till onion turns golden brown.
  5. Next add tomatoes and asofetida.
  6. Add red chilli powder and sambar powder.
  7. Add the cooked raddish and tamarind water(adjust to your taste). Allow to boil for 5 minutes.
  8. Add the mashed dal and salt. Add 1 cup water.
  9. Boil for 5 minutes and garnish with coriander leaves.
