The ingredients needed to make Sambar:
  1. Get 2 1/2 cup mansoor daal
  2. Get 2 cups toor daal
  3. Make ready 2 onions slice
  4. Get 3-4 tomato puree
  5. Prepare 2 slit green chillies
  6. Make ready 2 red chillies whole
  7. Prepare 2 tbsp red chilli powder
  8. Make ready 1/2tbsp turmeric powder

  13. Prepare 4-4 cups water

Sambar is a traditional South Indian stew that goes well with idli, dosa, steamed rice or can be served as a soup. Any South Indian meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, would be considered incomplete without Sambhar or one of its variants. Sambar, a hot and spicy lentil soup with mixed vegetables, is a must have accompaniment for popular South Indian breakfast and lunch recipes like Idli, Dosa, Medu Vada, Steamed Rice etc. A few years back Sambar used to be defined as South Indian delicacy, confined only to the Southern states of India.

Instructions to make Sambar:
  1. Soak dal for one hour… Later Boil it in pressure cooker by adding turmeric powder hing salt and 2 ups water… As daal gets cooked smashed it..
  2. In kadai add oil.. Than add mustard seeds as it splitters than add.. Onions ginger green chillies saute untill soft… Now add all spices than add tomato puree. Cook for 5 minutes…
  3. Now add sambhar masala let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes
  4. Now as this tadka is ready pour it into daal… Tham add few curry leaves and let it boil for 5 to 7minutes..add salt if needed… Now in small kadai add oil few mustard seeds pinch red chilli powder and whole red chillies..
  5. Heat it… Now add this over cooked daal… Cover it with lid let it stay in slow flame for 2 minutes
  6. As sambhar is ready serve hot and enjoy

I have used homemade sambar powder to make sambar recipe. But store-bought powder will work Wash and chop all the veggies you want to add to the sambar. I have used carrots, baingan (small.
